Now, while the wheels are clean, apply some wheel wax to protect them from future spotting/brake dust. Future cleanings will be much easier too.
excellent point...

there is a product called "wheel wax". it never really turned me on with car wheels, but recently was looking for a solution for my harley chrome wheels, and man this stuff was the "it" product !! and just cause its not my fav doesnt mean it wont be yours-

once my car wheels are clean, i like to use a coupla coats of whatever synthetic i have too much of... or whatever i just used on the paint. i then top that with wax. no way of knowing for sure, but my guess is that the wax evaporates pretty quickly, but the synthetics seem to hang around for awhile. definitely makes keeping the wheels looking new easier. i hit them with duster that is dedicated to wheels (i use a small one that was intended for interiors- i never understood the purpose of an interior duster, so the wheels is a perfect use for it !!). then detail spray them and wipe down. this can keep them like new for most driving.
