has s2ki gone downhill?

I don't mean to sound mad, I'm not but someone only sixty days old casting judgement on how it's not like the good ol' days just isn't right. You honestly can't have anything to add to this discussion at this early stage of your involvement. I'm happy you are here and reading it and learning from it but don't expect me to take what you say seriously.
Complaints about know-it-all noobs which is what xviper said he could no longer stand may be directed at posts like yours; Johnny.

I have enjoyed xVipers wit and sarcasm a lot in the short time that I have been here, and he was always the first to chime in with useful answers to any questions that I have had. And even though he has expressed his distaste for noobs asking questions before doing research, and even after he flamed them about it, he would more often then not still help them out or at least point them in the right direction. While this may turn off some thin-skinned noobs, to me it was entertaining and quite a bit of help. (yes, I did make the mistake of asking a noob question before using search, but was helped by xViper to know where to look first for answers ie faq's stickies etc..)
As far as starting a database of information that is useful and true, the FAQ's and stickies in the Under The Hood section take care of that pretty well when it comes to alot of things. I'm not sure how easy it would be to implement but it could be useful if there was some sort of member-available option for voting that a thread becomes a sticky.
Again sorry if you misunderstood my intentions with my posting, but it was not meant to be read as a decisive post saying that I believed the thread has taken a turn for the worst.

Nobody is really that stupid, so the post must have been a troll.
LOL, and since you and I both responded, it's working.

To be honest, Red, in my 4+ years around here I don't think I've ever met another S2000 owner who bought the car as a status symbol. Well, OK, maybe one or two... IMO, the S2000 was never exclusive or expensive enough to warrant that. Most of the original owners I've met have enjoyed the car "for what it is" (as you put it). In fact, many of the really early owners are the most "hard core" of the S2000 family.
I've been around here for (only) a little more than a year, so I don't have any perspective on a possible long-term "downhill" trend -- even if I knew what "downhill" meant. But if there's been a real change recently, I'd bet it was more in the nature of another up/down (or perhaps wax/wane would be better) cycle rather than a real trend.
In just the past 16 months or so, I've seen the disappearance of several people who (by disappearing) made this a better place; there have also been a few unfortunate losses as well. Conversely, several solid contributors have member numbers higher than mine, as do some questionable folks.
In terms of what "downhill" means, I've really not seen any significant change (in this short time) in either topic or tenor -- there are still the usual number of the usual suspects in both categories: what's the best exhaust (etc) threads, and all that. I will say that there seem to be fewer "this car sucks because if its oversteer" threads than were the case a while back (but, then, winter is just starting, so we'll see).
What I think is that this multi-page navel-gazing thread is just another aftershock of the xviper dust-up. It's useful as a way for folks to get grief (or joy) out of their systems and to help everyone move on.
And, on that note, it's probably appropriate to ask: is 2008 really going to be the last year of production of the S?

goes both ways... the older people don't like the younger teens cuz of what they represent and how it may drag down the prestigiuos image. and the younger ones will accuse the older members of being stereotyping and not using the car for what it was "truly" made for.
then there's the kids that want to buy it cuz of the status symbol but now the resale has sunk to what they can afford and people dedicated to tracking the car never cared and are happy that there's a big market to get used parts from.

- try opening a sticky.take a look under the brakes and suspension sections (which is what concerns me). tell me how much useful info there is there. i appreciate the brake ducting stuff and that's something that shows TRUE support and aggressive use of a car fo the s2k's caliber. but otherwise... what is there? there isn't even a complete listing of bbks and no info about how to retain your ebrake if you want to go to a true vented disc etc.
suspension articles are like sparse with a lot of assumed answers. oh what's done by certain people is as best as it gets... well that's great but are these people even around anymore (shops)?
so that leaves about 1 professional option and 1 senior member's option.
turbokits... there's a few sparse threads about some nightmare installs and a lot of ciruular threads about superchargers. circular meaning all the links lead to the same threads. no real mention or info about fullrace or even lovefab for that matter. that requires searching and searching turns up not data but hearsay. oh i think lovefab is the most complete system... oh i think this oh i think that... who knows if these people even have turbokits... lots of these people have superchargers in their sigs.
see how i feel this is a desert???
otherwise the site has a lot of information that i don't personally care about. i don't wanna know about the secret compartment but i think it's cool that there's a thread on that. i don't care about the ragtop at all cuz i'd switch to a hard top right away but there's full coverage on that. differences between model years, covered. but in the end.. i don't care....
in the end i wanna know about specific performance aspects i want to know about seriously sandbagging the car for roadracing but hey... all the pros will tell me that no one is vested in racing the s2k and you don't "need" a lot of sandbagging to roadrace the car.
this type of opinion only makes me sigh. if it's so "sufficient" without sandbagging then why is it never a winner in races with evos stis and nsxs (that are sandbagged)??? if people aren't vested then why ARE thier great turbokits and extreme suspension solutions? in the end what's needed is up to the individual, but i still have more chaffe than answers.
