Update on forthcoming changes to s2ki
#23
Being a sponsor I naturally have an alternative POV about advertising. However, if I weren't a sponsor I don't think the advertising would bother me because I realise that you can't provide a community resource without paying for it somehow.
To give an example... in the last 10 days I have sponsored no less than four S2000 meets, given 20 or more members of this site a discount on goods and paid advertising fees to S2Ki.
For each of these outlays I expect something in return... some exposure.
We rely on our ad banner for the reasonably limited amount of exposure we get on the forum. If our exposure were to rapidly dwindle due to a 'no ad' policy or feature or excessive use of ad blocking software we would simply be forced to stop supporting S2Ki and offering discounts to it's members. Of course we don't want to do that but we wouldn't have much choice in the matter.
So I would just ask people when they talk about banishing ads from the board that the end result would be to make it very difficult for sponsors to continue supporting not just the the board and its members but also the meets so many of you enjoy throughout the year.

I totally agree with cthree.
With our contribution this community and its service grows more and more. I must say that its the most well organised site/forum I have seen on the net. The more we give the more we get back.
And regarding the question "is 20USD or 50USD worth to spend"? Its not spending, its an investment.

The limitation of ad banners does present an interesting dilemma. What is the happy medium between blocking and continued sponsorship?
One good aspect..... the overwhelming majority of members who would benefit from the ad blocking also already are very familiar with the s2ki sponsors. The problem would be gaining info on new sponsors.
What about returning the sponsor page with links?

What is everyone's problem with the banners? It's not like they are 400x600 and taking up the whole screen. They are small banners at the top of the page.. not only that but through them you can find new places to purchase S2000 parts from. I'm not sure I understand why everyone wants to have an option of turning them off?
