I just took mine off last weekend. I like it 140923492304 times better with it off. I used a hair dryer a credit car, and my finger nails. Taking the black tape off is half the battle. The pain in the ass is taking off the residual adhesive that stays on the paint underneith. I used achohol but it didn't work well.. Paint thinner worked ok but it pretty much was just a tedious job of scratching it off carfully with the credit card. Be carfull with the paint! I messed up on a little part of mine..

What a waste of alcohol. I'm guessing Goo-Gone or Goof-Off (both can be bought at Home Depot) would work better than rubbing alcohol or paint thinner. I'm glad I don't have this decision to make. Let's see, do I want black or black...

Mine came off easy. I used a blow dryer, and went slow enough to loosen up the glue. almost all the glus came off on the tape. the hole process took about 20 min.

You could use a heat gun as well. it would get hotter and soften up the glue more, but you run the risk of melting the surrounding rubber moldings..

Hope this helps

Mitch

First mod I did! I did this literally within 5 minutes of ownership at the dealer. Mine came right off with little residue since it was brand new.

I've heard that it is a crap shoot whether the windshield pillar is painted completely or not, bit from the responses here, it sounds like you guys have had pretty good luck.

As for goof off, since that is Zylene based, don't you have to worry about taking off the finish?

I just finished this mod on an '01 GPW. The finish underneath the tape was immaculate, and the job took maybe an hour with a hair dryer, a plastic scraper and Goof Off. I really like the way it looks with the tape gone.
