Wake the Dragon 8

Wow, that sucks. Any idea if we'll know soon about the dragon reopening in time or not? Is it likely or not to open again soon? etc.
Understand the rock slide is not on the actual Dragon but north of the end of the Dragon by a few miles. Because it is a 2 lane road and ends/begins at the NC/TN state line TN chose to close it at the TN state line.
They could open it or could have left it open but TN claims they would not have access to provide emergency services due to the road being closed by the rock slide further north.
NC has offered to provide emergency services and to patrol it but so far TN has declined their offer. (Could this be about revenue???)
At this point assume that the road will remain closed. Decide if you want to attend under these conditions, if it happens to open it is a bonus.
If you chose not to attend because the Dragon isn't open then so be it, I can understand if you have never been how someone could make that choice. However there are plenty of other great roads to drive and the events on site at Fontana will be unchanged and they are always a blast!
Just remember April 7th is the final day for registration.
OK Folks
Reservation made at the Dillard House!
Here is the deal:
This year in an effort to keep the price as low as possible we will be in a different part of the Dillard House. Last year we were in the rooms known as "The Meadows" and this year they wanted $89 per night for those rooms.
Given that we are only there one night it seems pricey to me so i booked my room in "Oaklawn" which is located behind the restaurant. The rooms have either a single queen or double queen beds and the rate is $69.00 per night. We still have parking right outside your room.
So go ahead and make your reservations by calling 800-541-0671, tell them you are with the S2K group and you want to book a room in Oaklawn and the rate is $69.00 for arrival on Thursday April 22nd and departing on Friday April 23rd.

Infor on the Dragon this AM:
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- It will cost Tennessee about $2 million to remove a rock slide from U.S. 129 and stabilize the mountainside.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation let an emergency contract for $1.99 million to Pacific Blasting Demolition Ltd. on Monday, but the contract has incentives for completing the work earlier than the July 31 deadline.
The highway -- known to motorcyclists as the Dragon -- is closed from near Chilowee Lake in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains foothills to the North Carolina state line.
TDOT said Tuesday it is still working to reopen portions of the road.
Travel between Tennessee and North Carolina has become complicated with slides also closing Interstate 40 near the state line and U.S. 64 in the Ocoee River Gorge.
Travel is also hampered by a smaller rock slide on Monday on U.S. 441 in the Smokies.
Newfound Gap Road reopened Tuesday morning, with a detour through a parking area adjacent to the slide. The speed limit there is 15 miles per hour.
The detour will remain in place as park officials monitor the slope's activity to determine its stability.
