Default Moving To Austin

So I was offered a position in Austin which was too good to pass up so coming the 7th of April I will be moving from Dallas to Austin. My future work is off 360 and the colorado river (bazaarvoice/vmware building if you know where that is). Im looking to rent an apt somewhere close by as its my understanding that traffic can be very bad. With that said someone told us about the arboretum area and that sounded nice. I was looking to spend around ~1100 a month and would really like a garage, if anyone has ideas or areas that would be great, ill be down in austin again this friday for SXSW so I wanted to have a few places lined up before I ride down there. Thanks.

The Arboretum would be a nice area. With that said, I haven't rented an apartment in several years.

Are you going to work for VMW or BV?

It's going to be tough to find a 1BR for $1100 with a garage near your work. Most of the multifamily around 360 are actually condos and pretty pricey. Closer to the Arboretum/Mopac/Burnet/Far West Blvd you may find 1BR close to $1100, but with covered parking, not a garage. On the plus side, you'll be much closer to town. I wouldn't want to live very far west of 360, you'll be far from a lot of what makes Austin great.

On the plus side there's some great twisty roads out in West Austin! Check out City Park Rd, Cuernavaca, 2222, Toro Canyon Rd, etc. I work near 2222 and 360 and will take the S out for a 20min spin during lunch sometimes, great stress reliever.

What will you be doing at BV? I haven't heard great things about them but have never worked there personally.

Awesome, thanks man. My next search after finding a home was to find some fun roads. Compared to Dallas some of these austin roads are a god send.

front end development. Ive heard both good and bad so I just take everything with a grain of salt. Im use to working with SMBs/startups so making the move to a larger and public corp made me a bit hesitant but after interviewing with 5 people and questioning them about some of the big concerns I read about, it made me feel better to know where the company is headed now. If it ends up sucking, oh well. I got out of Dallas and can find another tech job.

The stories I heard about BV were from sales related roles. You should be good. If not, there's tons of tech companies in Austin.
