Busted (OK, just a warning) for no front plate...
Just an FYI...some of you may have noticed at the Temming's that I actually have put my front plate on my S. However, I have never had the front plate on my '97 Rodeo that I took camping this weekend. I was driving 121 from McKinney to Bonham and I came up on a state trooper doing about 40 mph on the shoulder. I wasn't speeding even before I saw him. As soon as I passed, he pulled out and put on the lights. I got a warning for not having a front plate.
Bottom line...it sounds like the concerns raised at S2KDays in Austin about enforcement of this law are true - at least with the highway patrol. Just wanted to let everyone know.

I know of several folks, myself included, that recently received warnings for no front plate. As the trooper explained "Texas is a two-plate state". I was "warned" while outside of Hamilton traveling to Fort Worth on HWY 281. Another incident took place in Junction, TX (far from anything). The recipient was driving a white Ford pickup without a front plate on the brush guard. The driver explained that in 40 years of driving he never received so much as a warning for a missing plate. All of the instances involved Texas Highway Patrol officers.
I don't know if DPS has placed increased emphasis on this issue but it seems fairly common these days. In 10 years I've received three warnings, once in Lake Worth, the second at The Ballpark in Arlington and the last near Hamilton. Each time the missing plate was the only problem.

I wonder if they're using the missing front plate as justification to pull you over to look for other things.
If you look suspicious, they don't need permission to search your car anymore - new terrorist laws.
