Diff swap
I had Rick's 4.56 and they were very noisy. They were also way too much with my current turbo. First and second hit redline in the blink of an eye. So I went back to a cryo treated stock gear set. No more whine. The 4.56 I took out had a perfect wear pattern on them, so I know they were installed right. I have heard other people who have used Richmond differential gears say that this is a common characteristic of them.
In terms of gas mileage I think your only going to see the diff when you go on the freeway. I usually cruise around in 5th so going 45ish is like 3500rpms? I am not sure what 4.77's would put you around 45 but you can always just use 6th gear while cruising the streets.
Ive also read the whine is common for the 4.77's and the Rick's gear set, I dont think it will hurt if you take the diff apart and see if anything is out of place. After a year or so the gears should show signs of damage IF they were installed wrong.
