Default High Speed Chase

I saw my first live high speed chase yesterday. There was about 20 officers chasing after this nut going south on 35 from the Irving area for just a $100 he stole from some dude.

Maybe the nut was set up by the cops so they'd have an excuse to chase

If it was a crowded place, shouldn't the police stop chasing for a while because just having the runaways see the cops make them start running away. And have you seen The Fast and the Furious? In the beginning at the first street race, one of the cops rammed his car into an innocent victim's car.

Sorry man, not in Texas. They will chase them through school zones, heavy traffic, you name it. I know some states have passed laws to stop chases if they get too dangerous. Not here.

Texas leaves it up to the individual LE agencies. Most will pursue forever, but a few (e.g. Harris Co) have max speeds and/or durations before they must give up. Would make COPS a lot less interesting though.

Trivia: DPS is the only agency allowed to shoot out a car's tires.
