What volk wheel do you have? Aircraft stripper will not work on Anodized surfaces like the ce28n or TE37.. ive tried it.
didnt think about that. gonna have to bust out the sandpaper or take it to a shop that anodizes wheels if thats the case

Does anyone know if the Volks in the pictures above are anodized or painted? I've only seen them in person a few times, and they look like they have clear coat peeling off around the lug nuts.

gernby - when he quoted me $60 per tire he was looking at my wheels in person. They are in VG condition without any rash or other damage that needs to be fixed prior to doing the actual work. Perhaps we can go by his shop and get him to give us a quote for multiple cars?

He has a shop full of oil field piping and appears to be swamped, but you never know he may cut a club discount.

Anyone else interested ?

Don

I'd be interested in doing that, but it would have to be after the next autocross so I can let my brother use my autocross wheels / tires while his Volk's are being fixed.

I did some research and came up with the following information:

The Aluminum Association Inc. describes it this way: Heating aluminum alloys above 275°F causes granular rearrangement of the metallurgical structure resulting in a significant change of bulk properties. Essentially meaning, the tensile strength of the metal is dramatically lowered.

Aluminum billet material and/or alloys change crystal structure at about 410°F. The crystalline realignment at 410°F causes the previous ductile aluminum to become brittle; thus the cases of powdercoated wheels shattering under stress.

Peak substrate temperatures for aluminum should be below 300°F--ideally 275°F.

This being the case, I will call the shop and assure the wheels will not be subjected to temperatures above 300°F. Once this is established I will make a decision on PC or Paint and let everyone know the outcome.

Thanks to all for their continued warnings - it made me take another look at how aluminum is heat affected.
