As I understand it, in Japan they have 100RON fuel so the JDM engines are tuned to that so you need as close to 100 as you can get here.

I guess 95RON is outside of the tolerances that the ECU can cope with on a JDM engine?

They have higher RON ratings in Japan (although IIRC it's not called "RON" over there. ) so the JDM engine is designed to run on the equivalent of 100 RON I think.

Something like that anyway.

My 2000 car has a sticker on the fuel cover saying it may be ran on 95 ron but a drop in performance may be noticed.

I definatly get better milage on higher octane fuel too
