Another new arrival
Picked up my new Silverstone/demi-red today and after about 4 hours and 180 miles I'm grinning from ear to ear. The car seems pretty quick considering I'm using 50 - 75% throtle and changing up at 5500 max (ok, ok I strayed up to about 7000 3 times - its difficult not to...)
My previous car was a BMW and the change in attitude from other drivers is noticable...lots of confused looks (S2000's are quite a rare sight in Scotland), a respectful nod (from a Saxo VTR driver no less) and a couple of complements.
One thing I'm surprised at is how noisy the transmission is - 4th gear whines at medium revs (3000 - 4000) and the diff (or clutch) makes a whirring noise when making tight turns in first or second....is this normal ?
Cant wait until morning...

Yep. There's lots of mechanical noises. You're sitting right next to the gearbox after all, and I don't think there's much sound-deadening material around. But that's what makes it so much fun! Wait till you really get a chance to wind it up
Isn't it a fabulous car though? Jill and I went top-down to Sainsbury's this evening (just a mile up the road) Vtec in 1st and 2nd, no air-box cover and the HKS exhaust had Jill yelling WHOOO-HOOOO!!!! into the rushing air

all those noises you describe really got to me in the first couple of weeks - hey, this is a brand new Honda - it should not sound like that, now either the noise has got less or I am just accustomed to it - it does not bother me any more. The thing you have got to get used to is driving the car at high rpm if you want the missile acceleration - holding it in 2nd gear at around 5500rpm feels noisy - but if you accelerate from that point in the power band there is nothing to catch it - I used to try to keep the engine noise down by leaving it around 2500-3000, but what's the point, just got to enjoy it.
The only other thing I am not looking forward to is the heat in the summer - the mechanical components get very hot - and the heat seems to soak into the cabin, when it's 36C ambient you start to cook - even with the aircon.

Congratulations, what an amazing car, I can't say I've noticed any strange noises yet but maybe my heart beat drowning them out
Or maybe it's because I've not been that far up the revs yet. Don't forget to change your status to owner then you can post the mandatory pictures
Enjoy it and drive carefully.

Well done - a sensible move. My S2 also whined a little when it was new and before I had had it over 6000rpm a few times. Now after 7 months I never hear it even when poodling aong at 3000rpm
