Best audio setup?

Best audio setup?
I'm aiming to connect my iphone to play music and would ideally like to keep the dash controls working. There seem to be some american companies that have some solutions but what is available in the uk?
From what I can see my options are:
Pay £60 for a connector that makes the iphone pretend to be a CD changer
or
Upgrade to a different head unit (probably with bluetooth) and likely loose the dash controls.
What have most people been doing?
Thanks

I was in this dilemma when I bought my S.
I bought an Iphone compatible Alpine headunit and upgraded the door speakers. The sound quality has been vastly improved.
I then bought the Modifry DCI which allows the dash controls to be retained.

I have the Modifry adapter like The Loon and an Alpine iDA-X001 (There are newer versions of this model on the market, -X100, -X200 etc). Works perfectly and you keep the dash controls. Very easy to install too.
The other bonus on the Alpine unit is that the screen acts as an iPhone/iPod screen, showing artwork etc.

No need to spend such a lot on the modifry, there are cheaper options available
For example, http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ict-29-629...ol-adaptor.html with the related radio interface (shown on that page under related items - this is dependant upon which brand of stereo you go for.)
This is also a good alternative http://www.diccaldwell.co.uk/interface.htm
Most of the major manufacturers (Alpine, Pioneer, JVC, Sony) make head units for a variety of prices which will connect to and control an iPhone both via a connection and via bluetooth. What you choose is budget dependant really.

i wouldnt waste time by trying to wire it to the factory system. the sound quality alone gained by just a hu is alot better. then add speakers, amps and other things.
bluetooth is a nice feature, i was skeptical on whether i would use it. but now i use it all the time.
i dont have the modifry for the factory buttons but after a few weeks it doesnt bother me not being able to use them.

I went with a Pioneer unit and adaptor from Car Audio Direct. Dash controls work, my iPhone works either via cable or BT and I can use Spotify in the car.
Basically, you can spend as much or as little as you want. You need a standard unit and most make an adaptor to fit the Honda loom to the ISO connector on the HU and you can get a DCI (dash control interface) for most of the main makes of units.
My only real recommendation is that you should not add any amps or speakers till after you put in a new head unit. Changing a head unit should not take more than 30 minutes, even if you have ten thumbs. After the HU is in then see how you like the sound and figure out if you want to change it at all through amps or speakers.
