Mr Pitts speaks the truth!

I'm below 500bhp and mine doesn't feel like it could take anymore BHP! not with standard drive chain, I've broke enough parts to know.

Spending that much money on a build and not being able to use it fully would be pure stupidity.

I'd buy a different car unless you can build it yourself.

Once again that money is just for the engine... I plan on upgrading nearly all other aspects of the car...

I've done breaks, suspension, bushes, bolts and arms, breathing, chassis strengthening... etc etc

Will be looking at new drive chain, gear box, clutch, drive shaft depending on which option I go for.

I know big power = big upgrades everywhere else, may take me a few months extra to get there and to get all the work sorted but the whole picture would be worthwhile!

IMO...

If I was in your position I would buy a stock low mileage engine and turbo that, and aim for 5-550hp,only reason I'm saying this is because-you could buy a low mileage engine for 2k where as you would spend more than double that for a full built motor(not sure on built motor prices) just to see an extra 50-100hp,I wouldn't ever consider a big spec motor unless I was into drag racing/track days seriously

I've been there and done that with big spec engines and look back and think I shouldn't have done that for what I use the car for(mainly road use)
Maybe I'm turning into a tight old git with old age lol

So many mixed reviews!

I'm leaning more towards the V8... But honestly I will couldn't choose. I want to build something special and to keep so the return on the money won't matter as would like to think I would keep the car for a long long time..

As already said you need to really decide on what power you want to run ,as too much will make the car really un drivable on the road,so your best option would be to have around 450 -500 hp which you could do on a lot cheaper budget and depending on how hard you drive the standard gearbox will take some abuse but not if your running wide tyres and launching it in 1st gear,V8s are fairly cheep for what they are I know a few who have bought new crate ls6 engines for around 5 to 6k cam swap and tune on the ecu and over 500hp one yesterday made 530hp and around the same torque but again you will need a tremec t56 which are very heavy but will take all you give it and the torque will kill the diff, also don't know how much heavier the setup will be so might alter the handling a fare bit.

V8 for me too..

There is a company in Birmingham called 'DynoTorque' that I would use for this. They've done alot of TVR conversions and I believe you could get the whole lot done for £14k from what I've seen.

I am tempted to go this route when I eventually get my S2k and the F20 bites the dust (I am intending on this car being a keeper!)

If you do go ahead with it, tell them BCA sent you. Then hopefully I'll get a discount for mine eventually?!

I quite like the idea if a V8 in a S2000 and would love a go at doing one myself, but a well thought out turbo build will run rings around a V8.The thing that you have with a V8 is the thing you dont want, which is torque from low rpm.

I built a Dutton in the early 80s with a ford 3.0 v6 in it (I know things have moved on but....) it was very very quick, 0-80 in 5 seconds but also dangerous.Any sign of a bend in the dry at 80 in 3rd had the thing snapping sideways.Even a hint of a damp road was a nightmare. My intentions at the time were to build a drag racer for the street, I succeeded. It would out drag bikes upto 100 leptons easily.Although the s2000 is a lot more refined than the Dutton the same physics still apply.

This is the truth....if I sneezed or had a coughing fit I would proceed along the road in a series of smoking burn outs, fun at first but very irritating and dangerous.

I dont know if ive got it in me anymore but if I was going to put a V8 into anything it would be something that can justify/handle it.To me the only other thing apart from what I'm doing now that would stir my soul is a Lola T70 Replica.

If you decide on the Turbo I will offer you as much help advise that I can give.Anytime you want to crawl over mine you are most welcome to.Im certainly not in this for the money just the pleasure and heartache of building something a bit special.

Whatever you decide it will be great.Ive said before on my build thread I could eat my car most of the time, set fire to it some of the time. But think of it and how I can improve on what I've done all the time.I have enjoyed doing what ive done and re learnt a lot of things. On top of all that its kept me good and honest.
