Default Camera Mounts

I have spent the last few days looking at the available options for mounting a camera on an S2000.

I had in mind the sort of thing that I was looking for - I wanted one that would mount on top of the secret compartment and as it is likely that my hardtop will be going on at the end of the month, I will have the mount fixed for the duration of the winter, so it has to look OK.

I have decided that the one I am going to purchase is this one:

More photos and details can be found at:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...?threadid=83722

It meets my requirements for position, looks well made and also comes with a plate that will allow me to attach a radar detector.

I received this email from the vendor last night:

"Well, here is the rundown!
The shipped unit including the bracket, hardware and one head weighs approx. 2 pounds in weight - Federal Express says it will cost $25.00 to ship economy (4-7days) and $35.00 to ship priority (2-3 days) so, if you would like to do a group buy I could give you an even discount on whatever total you come up with. Example; The standard kit comes with one bracket and all the hardware, One standard head w/ locknut and nylon washer. If you would like to upgrade to the Quick Release system add $25.00. If you would like the Radar Detector mounting plate add $15.00 for a total of $155.00.... I will have a website up and running at the end of the week with a secure Visa merchant account and my web address is Ztecindustries.com
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or requests."

I think that it is not a bad buy for just over

Steven that looks like an excellent piece of kit and the mounting head looks like it's no cheapy having a quick release lever which is always very convenient. Is this tailor made for the S2000? It appears to utilise the mounting holes for the aeroscreen.

it looks a lot better than the one I got from MG Racing (I think) - though it is double the cost it looks worth it.

Yes! If you have a look at the thread I posted the URL for you get a more detailed description and lots of pictures with both cameras and radar detectors mounted.

I don't think you need to qualify that statement Kobe, the MG Racing one is pants!

Before you buy, check these suction mounts out. I have used one successfully mounted on the bonnet, boot, windscreen, and have also used their clamp on the door handle for some in car shots. It's also UK made, so no issues with shipping

Got the mount delivered yesterday (thanks Nick for an excellent service).

It was raining this morning so I installed it with the hood up and this meant the install took a bit longer but still less than 15 minutes to get the Aeroscreen off and the mount on.

I then fitted my Video camera and I noticed that with the hood up there is not a lot of clearance between the top of the camera and the hood, an inch or two at most.

Using the Video Camera screen facing forward you can see in the cars mirror exactly what you are recording and I used the remote to start/stop the camera and adjust the zoom.

On the first run I had the camera pointing a bit too low and in the second I moved the camera to the right of the bracket but was pointing to far to the left. I think it is going to take a bit of time for me to find the the best position.

Here is the camera on the bracket:

I expect that the bracket will be used almost permanently to mount my radar detector, however it is a little conspicuous with the hood down:

I really should have ordered a second quick release bracket so that I could permanently keep one attached to the radar detector.

I also plan to try using one of my digital 'still' cameras on the bracket - I think I can get between 20 and 30 minutes of Mpeg footage on a 128Mb memory stick

That would be about right. I had a new digital camera arrive today - my 8th I think! - and it's really the bees knees. If anyone is looking for a cool still camera, with Panoramic Stitching tools, mpeg video with sound, etc... look no further than a Canon A40. <
