It wont be that hard, get it up on a ramp at a garage so you can see and work easily.
Im sure most garages could do it, its only a few wires!

Precisely what I thought. They'll see the old one there anyway so it's just a matter of replacing it really.
Grittyshaker - just to let you know I have just replaced mine with one of the ones you ordered.
It took 30mins to fit. They have 4 wires -
+12v
GND
Signal in
Signal out
Its easy to fit - if a little awkward. I had the car on ramps at the front and trolley jacks at the rear. The wires need soldering.
Just tested mine on the bypass and the speedo is now spot on (tested with GPS) and the speed limiter is also disabled.

It's a shame you aint closer to me, your about 2 hours away or I'd of done it for you.
Nice work
Soldering aint too hard just make sure its insulated.
My money is on your box being fried

andyloughran, from yesterdays meet, has said I can take it into his garage to get it up on his ramps. Despite how I come across, I'm not completely inept.

Thanks for your help guys, Shipley especially. It hasn't arrived yet, should get it after the weekend I imagine.

Yes it is Scott. Now take all that grubby electricians tape off and get to work.
I've managed to get all the previous insulation off and see what needs to be done.
The knackered speedo convertor has wires in and wires out, but the new one doesn't, and needs to be connected to the middle of the original wires.
I'm not completely convinced they're going to be long enough but I'm sure I can get around that.
I should have started earlier though as it's dark now. I've had to tape everything up again and call it a day.
Shouldn't some sort of heat-shrink insulation be used for the soldered connections, rather than tape? It doesn't seem insulated enough as it is.
That's what I've got anyway. I'll sort it at the weekend now, weather permitting.

Is this what I should be looking at?

I replaced it with the one detailed further up the thread.
If you solder it well - a tie-wrap and some 'proper' insulating tape will keep it secure and insulated.
The new boxes are tiny so are easier to hide in a better protected location.
At the risk of confusing you further...
Mine has two converters (I think), but both inside the car in the warm and dry. One is before the ECU to get rid of the speed limiter, and the other (I assume) is before the speedo. This means the EPS can get the proper signal. In theory your EPS ECU is getting the wrong speed signal, and as it's speed sensitive that makes a difference.
If you're rewiring, perhaps you should rewire it better? At least if you get it inside the car you won't get it wet again.

Although the new converter looks completely sealed to me anyway. As long as I do a better job of insulating the connections (which won't be a problem) there should be no water ingress suffered at all.

I'll have a better look at the weekend and see what I think.

Once the pulses are effectively slowed (no longer KPH but MPH) then in theory the speed limiter wouldn't kick in until a speed higher than the car can go
Make any sense ? It did to me...hence the combined unit.
I couldn't be bothered doing the sums though
