By the way, seeing the Kona logo. 1st question will be 'which bike rack?'. Answer is usually Saris Bones. I have a Patriot/Boxxers and a Trek whippet bike, although you may find your bike use diminishes now you have an S!
I've already thought about that!

It's a PITA not being able to put my bike on the car, having to rely on my brother picking me up in his people / bike carrier!

I've got 2 bikes, a classic old school Klein Attitude hard tail and as of this week a new Kona Hei-Hei which is fantastic, not been out on it yet but it looks the nuts and only weighs 23lb!!!!

Not a good trip to the dealers today.....

The mechanic test drove it and has confirmed it's not right, reckons it is clutch related and needs to take the gearbox out to check it.

Inspection will cost me

I'd be asking for a contribution from the supplying dealer

mega stream, I would double check that. Has he tried an S2000 before?

Both mine made a whirring noise with the clutch in, and I know number of others which do it also.

I personally would be careful they aren't taking you for a ride. I have a total distrust for dealers, and they will be trying to make some extra

Mine does the gearbox noise with the clutch in. It's not too loud, but you can definatly hear it. Seems to be quite variable for me, somtimes it's louder than others. Not been a problem or got any worse for the year I've had it, though it would kinda be nice to eliminate. I've changed the gearbox oil and it got a little quieter. I'd quite like to flush the thing through with oil under pressure, but I've no idea if/how you could do that.

I bought the car end of May 08 when it had just 15k on the clock, so I've only done 3k miles.

I'm not that fussed about the noise to be honest, it's fine when driving the car and the main problem is the hesitation when I pull away in 1st gear (sometimes)

Now my old S used to do this hesitation from 1st but only when it was hot weather. I'm not entirely convinced that the hesitation is anything to do with the clutch.

It's certianly not at the point where I want to be splashing out money on it anyway, I wouldn't trust their judgement to take the car apart to see if it something that could be done under warranty anyway!

MB, that's the opposite of what MS was describing

That said, I'd be very surprised if a Honda dealership employed anyone with the skill to identify possible problems in the way described, given how transmissions tend to be a bit of a specialised item. For example, why suspect a clutch when it's apparently working fine? Clutches themselves aren't that complicated, so it's highly unlikely to be at fault when it's doing its job. Of course, if the gearbox has to come out, given the labour involved, you may as well replace the clutch plate, release bearing and while you're at it fit a new pressure plate and lightweight flywheel

You know what I meant

Mega - the hesitation in 1st gear will not be clutch related IMO. Have a look at the link in my signature for help on that. It could be as simple as a loose throttle cable.
