Do I need a relay for the hardtop defogger?
Hey guys,
Sorry for coming up with this old topic but I couldn't find a straight forward answer so far...
2002 non-GT, bought the hardtop second hand, but never realised that the defogger is not working. Installed all the wiring at the time with the catchers (new kit), so I thought it should work.
I thought the models with the glass rear window should work with the hardtop defogger, am I correct? Or I'm just being plain stupid and I need to buy the relay that is under the steering column.
Weirdly just noticed that my soft top is not disengaged (probably the button on the catcher is not working properly), therefore the defogger button is probably making the soft top screen working, not the hard top one... or does it really matter?
Hope someone can come up with the very simple answer
Thanks guys!
Charlie

There are two brackets just underneath the glass rear screen in the HT that slightly compress the ST when it's folded down, the rubber stoppers cushion them.
If the ST will still raise slightly when the HT is fitted then there is a problem with the switch. The HT demister will not work unless the ST is deactivated.

Wobbly you are the star!
After the Christmas and New Year madness I've finally managed to look into your suggestion. Pulled the car out from the garage and the rubber bit that you were talking about was missing from the hardtop. Luckily I've found it in my storage bag (that is hanging off the ceiling) that is so bloody tight that it probably pulled the rubber bit off when removing.
So now the button is pushed down, the soft top is disengaged, and the hardtop heater is working. Without the need of the relay!
Cheers!!!
