Had it diagnosed and it come up as short circuit in the eps motor. is it possible to repair it or do i have to replace the motor? another thing is after driving the car for about half and hour or so if i turn the car off and start it agian it seems to be ok.

Motors can be taken apart and repaired, but only by someone who knows what they'll be looking at inside. A normal mechanic will not have the skill to do this.

It may prove easier and quicker if you source a second hand motor from a breakers.

If that's right then hard to believe motor is shorted. There is a failsafe in the electronics that turns the PS off. Perhaps that's your gremlin.

If you have the service manual, there is a good troubleshooting section for EPS if you have a multimeter, if not, what DTC number did the code reader give you?

The short may be the result of heat buildup and insulation breakdown.

I dunno if the brushes can be accessed and the comms cleaned without dismantling the entire rack; the motor is coaxial with the rack.

What I'd do is pull all the connectors out & spray with contact cleaner and just irritate the whole system. It may be something more simple like that, since I'd not expect and early EPS failure.

The service manual does mention checking continuity between lots of components, so I concur with Nick...it's a good place to start if nothing else.

Thanks for your replies guyz, well today i dissconnected all the connectors leading to the eps control unit and the motor, cleaned dem, connected dem bak but still no luck. Like i mentioned b4 if i switch off the car and bak on again after a long drive (about an hour), the eps becomes fine, only untill the next moning the eps light will return.
