Default Engine got really rather hot

Yesterday evening on my way home in sitting in the usual bottle neck realised I had 6 of 6 yellow bars illuminated but not the red. Thankfully as I was pondering my options (I was not in a good place to breakdown!) the lights changed and once moving the temp dropped back quite quickly so I made it the few miles home

Seems I lost a little bit of coolant but its still above minimum. Took the car for a very quick spin today and no obvious sign's of trouble or odd rattles etc.

On the basis I didn't run out of coolant or go in the red whats the likelihood of damage and what parts are likely to be affected?

It will go to garage next week to find out why the fans aren't working (I've looked at the thread from march so will suggest the fan switch)
but wouldn't mind having some heads up of any potential expensive/terminal repairs that might need doing

thanks in advance.

you're probably OK I reckon 6 bars is about 133 Celsius which in the big scheme of things isn't that bad - you'd have noticed steam if it was blowing it's safety pressure valve in the rad cap. I'd keep an eye out for leaks in the coolant system just in case something has a hairline crack and keep an eye for "mayo" in the oil in case you've blown the head gasket.

I'd also check the fuses and relays too - try unplugging the thermo switch and bridging the connector to see if the fans switch on or off

Since my aem install and retro thermostat fix I have found that if I am sat I traffic on a boiling hot dah like recently the temp goes from 3 bars to around 4 to 5 depending on how long I am sat around for.

Lack of airflow over the rad and a mix of insensitivity of the temp sensor

if you stand looking at your car from the front, it's in the bottom right hand corner IIRC

First off, check the radiator is full & not just the header tank. If it's got a leak, it may not be able to suck enough water back in quick enough.

You can bridge that thermoswitch and see if the fans run. They do sometimes fail, thermoswitches.

If it happens again, try putting on the heater on full at max fan speed to help out. It's how early Subaru 1000s & Ford Taunuses did most of their cooling!

Probably your fan switch mate as others have said, relatively inexpensive as they're pretty much the same as all hondas of the same generation

Fan switch changed and all good. Ever get the feeling things happen for a reason? Well when changing the switch they noticed the lower hose connector clip had corroded away. Lucky eh?

Thanks input.
