Default Engine light on

So I went for a drive this weekend, everything seemed fine. just topped the oil up, fresh tank of petrol and tyre pressures were just done.
was driving up a hill at speed in the vtec when all of a sudden the rear caliper locks up and at the same time the engine light came on.
I honestly thought I blew the engine up till I pulled over and saw smoke pouring out the left rear wheel, managed to get it loose and drive back home.
Everything seemed fine after but now I have this engine light on which is making me feel uneasy and I would like to get it sorted before I go for another hoon.
Any idea what it might be or how to diagnose it? and how do I get rid of it..
Thanks

Read the engine code and it will give you a clue to the cause.

You need to get the code read to make sure it isn't anything serious. You can either buy yourself something off eBay for around £12 that will plug into the OBDII port and then purchase the App to go with it to connect to your smart phone, or find someone that already has one of these. Once you have read the code, you can check here what it actually signifies:

Depending what it is will denote what you need to do to get rid of it. I would be reluctant to be driving it hard without knowing the issue.
