Default Engine warning light- help please.

After some high speed spin offs on the Heyford track day on Saturday, my engine warning light is constantly illuminated. After each spin I had to wait a few seconds before the engine would restart. I believe this is because the fuel cut-off had operated.

Is it possible that after the cut-off operating a few times the engine thought there was a problem?

I am reluctant to go to a dealer if they are only going to reset it and charge me an arm and a leg for the pleasure.

Any help or advice appreciated...

Mike.

???????

You`ve lost me.

Walk`s into dealer......`excuse me pal, my engine lights on`. `Oh, yeah sure, it`s an MY02, hence in warranty, can you sort it for me`.

Track day? No, not me pal. Just social and commute.

Cheers mate, I`ll pick it up in a few hours when YOU will have sorted it under warranty, FOC.

Hmmm. Will have to replace all the tyres and remove the burnt rubber and grass from inside to get away with that one.

If the fuel cut operates, you have to reset it to start the car IIRC. Plus, it only triggers with an impact. When spinning, if you didn't get the clutch in quick enough, the engine will be forced to run backwards as you stall. This isn't a problem, but it does mean the pumping action of the engine works the other way. So the engine intakes from the exhaust side, and exhausts into the intake. So when you start the car, the inital fires are trying to run with exhaust gas plus new fuel - which is why you often have to wait a little, or crank for a few seconds to re-start after spinning if you didn't get the clutch in. It's possible this has caused your CEL - the Ecu could be thinking yu've an emissions problem. Unless there's someone near you with the lead/software to read/check and reset it, then best to pop in the dealer.

Thanks Brian. Sounds very feasable. I'll pop it in the dealer for a reset.
