Default Engine Malfunction

MY00 32,000 miles, just pootling around this morning and the Engine malfunction light has come on. Presumuably that covers a multitude of sins but are there some obvious causes? Only bought the car in January so I have the extended warranty, hopefully that will help.

Car, to my knowledge sounds and runs fine. Took it for a blast last night but not for long and it seemd ok then.

Read the manual and that talks about emissions etc.

Any info that puts my mind at rest would be appreciated! (But then if, in the worst case scenario, it means I need a new car then I'd rather here it here first so that I'm prepared for it when the dealers tell me!)

PS. Would have searched on here first but it isn't working.

Thanks

If you are talking about engine management light, it could be a whole host of things, normally just sesnsors etc

i doubt you will need a new car! Get down the stealer and plug it in to find out. If you look on the FAQ, there is a huge list of fault codes, as far as I know, any of these would trigger the light

Try resetting the ECU you may be lucky and the light shall go out, it could save you time, money and hassle of visiting the dealer.

This can be done by disconnecting the battery for a few mins then reconnecting.

Mine came on on friday and was an intake temp fault. Dealer was very helpful and did an ECU reset and hasn't come back yet.

Was free of charge as expected.

The ECU can pick up hundreds of faults so only they can help...
