Exhast mod
Sorry I'm new to this. But wanted to ask for your apinion about modifing a stock exhaust.
Does anyone know the internal layout of the UK stock exhaust, when you measure down the exit pipe it looks like there is only one baffle plate covering the entry to the silencer. Would it make any sense to drill a large hole (say approx 1 inch) through the baffle to make the silencer virtually straight through. Would it improve the sound? Would be OK for the engine? Is it a crap idea. Would be very cheap mod and still look completely standard.

It might improve the sound, i doubt it'd do anything to power and i would expect your exhaust to decay and rust in a fairly short space of time.
I know this isn't a wind-up, just someone trying to get more noise from a standard exhaust.
Don't bother, just save for a replacement exhaust

Possibly the cheapest mod if you just want more sound without paying a fortune for a new exhaust (difficult to justify for reasons of power anyway) is to cut out the centre box and have a straight pipe welded in. (Don't cut out the Helmholtz resonator).

"How does it even sound like?
On startup, it's a little bit raspy. Once the car is fully warmed up, it's got a bit of extra throatiness and growl and it definitely has a bit of a snarl up top. I have a K&N intake and between the two of them, the car sounds fabulous but not overly loud. It's nowhere near as loud as aftermarket systems in general.
Just cruising, you don't really hear the exhaust (tire noise is much louder). Once you hit the throttle, though, it's noticeable. You can actually hear the car at idle, as well. There's no "farty" sounds or anything like that. I think it sounds like it should have, stock."
That might of course be a load of
