Heater Problems?
Chris, have you checked your coolant level. The heater going cold is usually a symptom of it being low.
Other possibility is an air lock.
Check your levels, and if they're okay, look for an airlock. I believe there's a valve at the high point of the coolant system that should allow you to bleed the system.

I'd be really concerned about a coolant leak or air lock.
Had this in MK1 MR2 (mid engine front rad) with a gradually worsening head problem. Coolant would blow out the exhaust pipe over time, heater would cease to function after a while and go cold. Next thing the coolant temperature went ballistic as the radiator locked and you saw the coolant boiling out of the rear window.
Touch wood, you've nothing like that problem

Chris,
I have noticed that in VTEC the heater kicks out far more heat. As a little test take the car out, get it up to running temp and set the heater dial to the 10 o'clock position. You may find that it does not get too hot. Then get above 6000 RPM for a while and see if it is any different. If it is, them my car is exactly the same. On full heat (without the aircon on) it gets sooo hot
Hold on a mo...you do know that if you move the heat selector knob to either of the screen demist positions that the aircon comes on automatically? and therfore it can feel a little cool
Regards
John
