No gunk on the oil filler cap or visible inside.

The water level is about 1 inch below the top of the radiator but the level in the tank had dropped to low again and the car has been standing since I filled it. I will check tomorrow to see if has dropped again and whether I can see any signs of a leak.

chris... any new information? I am having the EXACT same problem... it's puzzling me!! My dealer doesnt seem to know what the problem is either. My coolant drops every other day and I am having the same problem with my heater (as they are obviously related). If anyone knows of a bleeder valve for the system that might be helpful. The dealer told me I had a leak in my system related to my cold air intake but they clamped off what was leaking... funny thing is that although im losing fluid I dont know where it's going... the floor is dry after the car has been sitting.

One thought I had on this was a faulty radiator cap.
I had this once on a car (can't remember what it was).
If the rad cap is faulty, and remember, they're designed to vent at a specific pressure, it's possible that it's venting at a lower than normal pressure.
Typically, this would show up as staining around the rad cap, but if it's a slow bleed it may not.

Not sure how to check this though without replacing the cap.

Note: I believe the radiator should be full to the brim. If there is an air gap at the top, it could be causing air blocks as it's forced round the system during normal running.

Chris- Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I would check out that the cylinder head gasket isn't leaking. I had this on my Legend and it was a tiny crack in the head gasket. Unfortunately as it was a V6 both sides had to be replaced - cost me

Yes, there's one (careful if you search as there are two on US cars - the engine installation is different.).

It's on the front of the engine, one the intake manifold side.

What a headache... I just stopped at the dealer and all the mechanics were shaking their heads... "I can smell something burning from here... Are you sure you didnt suck any water up in your cold air intake... Look at all that leakage around the head, I've never seen that before on an S2K" ... "We're gonna have to pressure test it." There is considerable leakage around the VTEC side of the head. Looks like a pain in the ass and all I see is cost! Does anyone know if the one way valve on cold air intakes is really effective at keeping water from entering the manifold? Mine is AEM.

I've go no leakage around the head and the oil is clean. The dealer examined the car and pronounced that there was a small leak in the radiator. I was losing about 1/4" from the expansion tanks every day or so.

I took all the deflectors off under the engine but could not find any sign of leaks so I stuck a pot of Radseal in yesterday. Today the level was down a fraction but that is to be expected as I drained a lot of water to make sure the Radweld stuff would fit. I've just got in so will have to wait for it to cool down before checking again

Level in expansion tank had dropped less than 1/4". Looking good.
