update: just got my refund, no quibbles and no fuss so I'm back in the market for a jack - might acutally just go for that £30 low pro steel one - the benefit of which is that I can use the shorter handle of my 3/8" socket to jack.

Dave from SGS has offered us a 5% discount on a group buy of 10 pairs, so they would be £100.26 delivered (£83.55 plus VAT) instead of £105.54 for this one:

Not a great saving to be honest?

I agree with you that the control of the decent is much easier with the twist on the pump rather than separate, if that £30 jack had that i would be all over it. I could easily modify that one to at least 80mm, maybe even 75.

You have to remember that steel is a lot "stronger" than ally so that's the reason the steel jack has smaller diameter tube and parts etc. Id rather drop a steel jack than an ally one if you get what i mean.

I think i have convinced myself in my ramblings to go on a hunt for a nice steel jack.

I know we keep on calling it "the £30 Jack"- it's actually £39.85 delivered or £45.84 if you add the rubber pad as it doesn't qualify for the free next day delivery (as it's under £50) still a good deal I think

I went for the Arcan one and am pretty pleased as its nice and light to move around. It also goes all the way under the car to the diff so you can jack the back end up in one go and it will fit under the sills by the front wheel arch as well so no more driving onto blocks for me!

My car is lowered about 30mm as well so I hope that helps others with the decision making process.

Got my sgs trolley jack yesterday after reading through here for recommendations. I haven't tried it out yet but it's a nice looking bit of kit I must say.
