VTEC will be less pronounced but you pick up about 7-10bhp .

Honda created a 'vtec kicked in yo feeling' due to the fueling where it dips then jumps up, this vtec engagement point fueling wioth J's is now smoothed to cancel out the dip in power and the cam point change over is now at its optimum for power.

Honda basically set the oem vtec point to create a pronounced feeling/kick when vtec engaged even though it wasnt the best for performance.

Hopefully tomorrow when i tune my car i can highlight this when i scan in dyno graphs.
Actually this is very evident in cars running with standalones or even piggybacks eg. greddy. Keep in mind though that you should not go too low on vtec. It mostly depends on your exhaust manifold (assuming that you do not run cams/gears). If you use the stock manifold going lower than 5400-5600 will do more harm than good performance-wise.

Yes Mark, shall post results tomorrow.

LOL, my car would have blew up about 3 times if your predictions were correct in the past it wont be to everyones taste what swayed my decision was I nearly bought a 2nd hand 350Z not long ago (later model convertible with the power hike) but then i found out about the awful MPG and the fact i should be saving for emmigration in the future

Don't worry if you don't feel the difference right away. Its self learning at the beginning. When I had mine plugged in, I didn't notice anything until I switched off and on the engine. It took about a week to actually feel the real increase of power and torque on the butt dyno.

You can read in the following link my first impressions if you want to...

Yeah it does feel a bit sharper than when I originally fitted it now... I just think that j's racing exhaust would top it off

i’m also interested in getting one of these ECU’s for mine, MY01 and i’m curious if the J’s ECU will show normal CEL and be able to read codes thru OBD2 because i wanna be able to maintain my car fairly easily. i mean obviously it being an AP1 i keep an eye on the oil level regardless but CEL and codes are usually quite helpful.

also i just read on this same thread that your car has to be decat/ test piped.

currently my car has the berk high flow cat and a J’s racing 70rs dual. and it sounds pretty amazing, not insanely loud.

but i was curious if the J’s racing ecu would work with my high flow cat or if it would “be destroyed” and i need an actual test pipe for the ECU to work without destroying my new high flow cat. idk someone let me know please
