Comes in on tickover. It's actually quite loud and about maybe 5 clicks per second.
Also comes at a few other points in the rev range. On the over-run at about 3-4k and when on the power at 5-7k.
It honestly sounds dead like a rattly heat-shield. Which is why I wasn't too worried...

The car's now booked in to Phoenix Honda tomorrow morning.
They're going to look at the off-side rear hub which is making creaking noises after they replaced a rear calliper as well as the phantom rattle.
I haven't mentioned to them about it coming from the gearbox yet so let's see what they come up with.

May sound silly but have you checked the O2 sensor on the cat? Just a TINY bit lose and it makes a terrible noise at startup and overrun...
When I had my exhaust installed last year we were tearing our hair out for days. Worth a check before you go ripping your box out!

Well, I've just heard back from Phoenix Honda.
Turns out not to to be a problem with the gearbox thankfully. Pheew...
It looks like the timing chain tensioner has failed causing the chain to rattle around inside its casing. This is then being amplified by the gearbox.
The car will now be off the road until at least Monday as the part needs to come from Belguim(!?!?!).
The tensioner is a not-too-reasonable
