If it's going to be a daily driver I think you should also consider turbo. I'm not convinced SC suits the S for any driving other than track driving. By the time the thing starts spinning you will be travelling at seriously stupid speeds - 100mph+

Good luck either way.

Mine is exactly the opposite to that.
I've got 240 BHP and more torque before it goes in to vtec.
IMHO the SC is great on the S it simply amplifies the nature of the engine with out changing the character.

In combination with my suspension mods it has become a great A/B road blaster, I can over take in smaller gaps and often more than 1 car at a time.

Forgot to add that its still fine to be used as a DD, a very aggresive clutch (stage 4! ) makes it slightly more tricky round town but otherwise no problem.

It might have been the multiple overtaking part on the test drive B roads that gave Punch his perception of 100+

Your right about the throttle response but its minimal, to be honest i found i was travelling a lot quicker than i was before so it was the last thing i was really concentrating on One thing about the added torque that i liked was the fact i was changing gear less, fewer car inputs means less things to upset the balance and less things for me to get wrong.

Unfortunately i havent got my latest dyno showing torque as it was a lot higher than below due to being able to be more agressive on the mapping due to running methanol but if you compare mine and Dave's Dyno it shows the difference in power delivery between Turbo and Comptech running similar boost levels on the same dyno with the same tuner.

Mine at 12psi

Daves at iirc 13?

@4400 rpm im making 160whp and 180ftlb where as Dave is making 110whp and 125ftlb

@5200 im making 210whp and about the same ftlb where as dave is making 135 of both.

@6800 im making just over 280whp and 220ftlb where as Dave is making 225whp and 175ftlb

Now at 8000 odd im dying on my ass cause the little turbo is spent. Dave's charger is now in Warp drive and he pulling like a train. At this stage you could do a Phil and put a GT35 on your car and then not ever have to even look at dyno comparisons again

I do think for track work the charger is probably more suited due to the fact of keeping the whole lot cool as the turbo tends to generate a lot of heat. Do the ground work round it and it can be kept under control but its extra cost.

So it all depends what you want from your conversion and what your willing to spend.

Apologies to the OP for taking this thread in a different direction - I only suggested that turbo should be included in his FI comparisons especially if the car was to be used as a daily driver.

For me, the power curve of the SC'd cars is too flat, more so in the S with its 9k redline. I prefer the steeper curve of a turbo as it'll mean that the power is accessible earlier.

I drove Dave's car and it was a blast. Would I be able to use the power in the real world? I doubt it - the car was just too fast! The noise was out of this world. The car would thrash all comers on a track, including Ferrari's, but on public roads the power is too far up the curve IMO.

I've decided on a 4.77 FD to make my car accelerate faster. I rarely travel above 30 MPH in London and tend to stick to the speed limit on the motorway. My typical driving range is between 2500 and 3500 rpms - I pootle around for the most part.

When I want to have a blast in the car I get frustrated that I can only VTEC in 2nd & 3rd (I dont bother with 1st gear) so the hope is that the FD will mean that I can VTEC in 4th - The car will be faster with the 4.77 and it will suit my driving style.
Next on the list will be a VACF to trim fuel from the top end and then I'll leave at that.

To the OP, you decide, but I wouldn't discount turbo

Excellent comparison there Lucky77, really puts things into perspective. Maybe there's someone who's quick with a spreadsheet to enter that data straight into.

For myself, it's going to a supercharger;

1. The more established FI solution in the UK (and currently the only one available for DBW).

2. The one that retains the most of the S's character. I'm averse to anything that moves away from the unique character of the S as the turbo appears to do - though do accept that some people would prefer to move it more towards the conventional. However, does anyone remember the US vid with owners asked whether they preferred the F20C or the F22C - it seems the F20C was general favoured, despite being "inferior".

After another year's driving the S, you may find that 1st gear is your best chance of exiting a tight roundabout quickly enough in a "competitive" situation

...or a turbo S in 2nd as you say.

Though the thrill of the S is having to work for the performance.

I found Steves (Bone stock vortech SC+decat+slightly bigger pulley+stock injectors) fine to drive, it did pull a wee bit too much on vtec engagement but i found the power was useful and usable so i cant comment on the tuned SC setups - steve managed to use it alot and have fun .

Punchdrunk, FYI you'll be sitting around 800rpms highier in gear with the 4.77 FD. Also leaning out the top esp the last 500-600rpm you'll reach fuel cut much quicker so you need to watch out for that ( i noticed its defo faster), i didnt push it too lean (ie not 13.2) right at the top end.

Now the power doesnt dip off as drastically which is good but the engine running out of puff anyways, also why just the top end do the whole range in WOT though you wont get alot with say 1 bolt on.

This talk of SC's makes me as i nearly bought an old vortech but lent my sister the money (in a way probably a good job as i cant stop myself modifiying it WOULD be tinkered with) , plus now this year i have more important things than the car.
