What would be interesting would be to measure the 40-70 time in 2nd/3rd vs the time in 3rd only. I suspect that from 40-70 2nd/3rd would win, but from 50-70 it'd be much closer.

No reason why they should be - there was no change to engine or gearing (AFAIK) between 99-03 and 04+.

When comparing "in gear" times between the S and other cars it is often like comparing apples and oranges because the S is getting into its stride just as most other cars are having to change up. It would be better to look at the revs as a part of the avialable rev range eg
6,000 rpm red line 2/3 = 4000 rpm
9,000 rpm red line 2/3 = 6000 rpm
this will not fully address the issues but it will help level the playing field, the S2000 is a different animal and you can't use the traditional road test measures as they do not show the cars full potential and automatically place us at a disadvantage.
