Yep. I was surprised to see the lap times from the SLK55 vid (AB posted as well)...... the best the AMG could manage in similar conditions was a 1:07.66 compared to the 987S 1:06.40

P.S. AB do you know what the very last graphic is saying at the end of the Cayman vid? I suspect its comparing the Box and Cayman but can't tell what from the numbers 777?
The end graphic is comparing the cost between the Cayman and the Boxster S.

Probably more down to the driver than anything else.
As AB mentioned, it was being driven Keiichi Tsuchiya - AKA The DRIFT king I think he could make the car do what ever it wanted and would have driven it the fastest way possible! The S chassis and engine are still great. just a couple of small tweaks to remove the grey suit compromises and the S is faster than them again!

Why everyone so concerned for our S? Stock for stock, it is the little engine that could.

The car looks great still, yet it is a 7 year old platform that has undergone very minor performance improvements compared to the others. It hangs with good company (with more $$, more cylinders, more litres, bigger wheels....). You can only take a NA 4 cylinder engine so far and no more reliably.

Lets not try to justify why a 2/2.2L car can't always beat out 3.xL sports cars from the likes of BMW, Porche etc. It's still one of the automotive world's best kept secrets!
