S2000 vs CTR
As I started the this maybe to gauge everyones opinion better what do you think if both cars were put on a dry track and driven by a neutral driver?.................... Some say he eats hamsters for breakfast but we call him the Stig!!
This whole thing started awhile back with me and the better half due to the fact that the two cars are both performance Honda vehicles and it was inevitable that people were going to draw comparisons. So it was just a question to see what other people on here thought and what your opinions are because everybody has a right to theirs. Personally I think the S is quicker in favourable conditions but not by a huge margin, suppose that sounds like Im sitting on the fence!

Just to put this in perspective, a 4 door VTi (sohc 1.5 VTEC) that has the usual bolt ons plus 3 angle valve angle job and a shaved head, no back seat, removed A/C and power steerings gives my S the beans on a race track. It makes a posted 116 whp on the dyno.
I will eventually pass him, but by no means do I walk away from him with ease, like an Evo will blow past me on the straights with ease (though never in the twisties).
So I insist, a K20 CTR pushing out 200bhp, the same torque and about 200 pounds lighter and shorter final drive will always give the S a good run. Worse yet a DC5 ITR with 220hp and about the same spec otherwise as the CTR. I ran one of those once and it was dead even all the way.
Why must we believe the S is so invincible? It is not. It is a great car, but a car with the weight of an Elise 111r is going to do the S damage (stock for stock) in just about every circumstance, save maybe absolute top speed which is irrelevant. Honda's own rumoured S2k Type R's going to loose weight as its main weapon, so never discount that factor. Lotus knows this "speed" secret well.

Trinis is right;
I had a chase round a track with a tatty 1.6 VT 3-door on a J plate.
240 vs 150 BHP and I couldn't do anything with him, except tail him.
Mind you, guy had a race licence & had to nip out lunchtime for new front rubber!
And he upset all the posh Krautwagens by driving round them all; it was hilarious to watch from the pits!

If as one journalist once upon a time eloquently though exaggeratedly put it "an S2000 is a thinly disguised racing machine" then an Elise has to be "a thinly disguised go-kart"..

I'm faster now in the S than I was in the CTR, but that's because I'm a "better"/"faster"/"braver"/"stupider" driver nowadays.
The S inspires more confidence than the CTR as you have more idea of what's going on with the car (in much the same way as the CRX did with the low seating position, steering feel and so on).
In a straight line drag, the S is faster, but not by much. The important thing to remember here is not timings for acceleration, 1/4 miles and so on, it's distance covered in a specific time that counts.
A few months ago I deomonstrated using data from track-challenge.com the relative distances covered by an S2000, E39 M5 and Z4 3.0. Here are the results:
