Default Soft Top Rattle

I have had my 2001 car for a few weeks now, and am aware of a rattle in the roof mechanism on the drivers side. I don't want to fiddle with anything, but equally don't have any confidence in the dealer in Bristol where I bought the car.

I suspect that this may be a common problem so wondered if anyone could suggest any adjustments that I could try?

Suggest your first stop should be the FAQ section - if its the latches rattling there's a couple of solutions in there. If its a "squeak" rather than a "rattle" and coming from the roof itself, then the roof may just need a bit of grease (I think this is covered in one of the Technical Service Bulletins

I am based in bristol if you want another member to hear it then PM I have an My00 for comparison. I have used both Bristol dealers without fault. Ian is the service manager at the Eastgate one and he is simply brilliant he has one of his own and is looking for a new one (might even have it already). I have had no problems with their service at all. The sales side was a little different though - but don't let that put you off

Thanks to all of you who have responded. I have been paying more attention to precisely where the noise is coming from, particularly after re-reading the appropriate links. I think now that it may be the drivers side latch that is a bit loose.

Rob, thanks very much for your offer, it would be good to get together with another owner, locally, especially with a car of a similar vintage. What is your availablilty over the next week or so? I would also modify my comments about the Eastgate dealer ship - Ian is excellent and customer friendly, but it is the sales side experience that I found disappointing.

Thanks

Mark

When the roof is cold it always fecking rattles one of the cars most annoying features IMO. If its older it may be the clips. The best thing to do is check the clips, if they are fine get the roof mechanism re-greased.
