Help please,
turn key press start & all i get is a rapid tapping/knocking noise. No ignition at all. Been turning over a lot slower recently. Battery seems ok . topped up water & charged all night.
Any ideas please..... Has anyone had similar problem & how much for starter & fitting if this is the problem

It is your battery. Needs to be replaced.

 

As Steven says, try recharging but battery will need replacing soon.

 

Try getting a jump lead start from another car that should confirm whether it is the battery or not IMO

You could also check the drive belt to make sure it's properly tensioned, but if your car hasn't already had a replacement battery, that's almost certain to be the prob. 5 years on one small battery is good going IMO.
