Question

Hello,

I am having the same 66-1 code pop up in my S2000. The modulator in Seattle costs $2100.

Is there anything I can do to try and repair this myself?

Couple ideas are:

Break fluid level
ABS sensor alignment

Or am I trying too hard and hoping too much? I am currently 6 months out of warranty.

Thank you

Ehdrian,

If you' ve getting that code it is definately a module failure, if you check this code on ebay US it is a ABS/VSA module off an 08 car.

The VSA light came on yesterday in my S2k (MY07) after being parked up for about three weeks and won't go off, its into the Honda dealer on Saturday for diagnosis.

Having read this and other Honda forums i'm not expecting anything other than bad news. The car's a EU import (full UK spec) only four months out of warranty, has full dealer service history and only done 18k.

If I do require the ABS/VSA modulator unit, do you think I'll have any joy with getting Honda to pay for the part?

Dave.

Buy your extended warranty from a different dealer today. Leave it a couple of weeks before taking it into your garage

The parts aren't in stock any way at the moment.

Might be worth buying an extended warranty before it goes in and waiting a couple of weeks There's no official recall on this module as far as I know and HUK are notorious for not doing doing goodwill repairs on recently out of warranty EU cars.

Edit: Neil. Great minds and all

Good idea wrt the extended warranty. Is there any way Honda could tell that the fault occurred prior to the date you purchased the warranty, i.e. does it flag up a date when plugged into the diagnostic machine?

MY07 (US) same problem. Dealer just told me that it would be US$2400; oops, it's under warranty; lucky me.

It would seem that anyone having this same problem would have a case with Honda that it is a systemic problem and probably should be the subject of a recall/TSB.

Just print this thread to demonstrate all of the same vehicles that have had the same problem.

Related question: for those of you that have had the module replaced, does it stay fixed or has anyone had a repeat failure?

I haven't had a "repeat failure", but bizarrely there does seem to be more of a slip angle on a quick junction exit than I ever remembered before. New Tyres at the time VSA replaced (2 weeks or so before) so not that. Sure it must be coincidence but strange!!!

Interestingly, Honda have today issued a bulletin extending the warranty on the VSA modulator for CRV, Accord Ctdi & EV1 Civic Type S from 3 to 6 years, where the DTC reads 66-1.

No other models are affected......

After reading about these VSA module failures, I purchased an extended warranty from Davey at Brayley Honda on the 7th Sept.

Last Tuesday, 3 miles into a journey to work, CEL appears. Contacted Gatwick Honda, took it straight there, and they diagnosed O2 sensor (on the manifold) failure. New one fitted on yesterday. No charges, all covered under the warranty. Thumbs up to Gatwick Honda for fast service.

Looks like my VSA model failure paranoia has already paid for itself.
