Somehow I don't think we're getting the full story here yet!

Surely there are also the costs of repair / replacement of the bus shelter ? It'd be nice if the insurers picked up these costs as well ?

Really sorry to hear of your accident dollaq, but glad you're ok.

I must admit all the posts of accidents have made me reconsider as to whether I should get an S. Especially as it will be driven in the winter as well as summer. Is it really that touchy when driven carefully?

My second choice (don't laugh!) is a Mini Cooper S (not the convertable). Different kind of car, I know, but I will certainly be thinking about it and it'll save me a bit of cash too...
I have owned an S as my only car through one winter so far, plus the beginnings of this one and not had any major moments, fingers crossed not tempting fate. I think I've been lucky!

Sorry about your S !!!

It was about this time last year that I crashed and wrote off my Civic Type R and had a hell of a battle just to get a decent price for the salvage from from the insurance company.

They will try all ways not to pay or to pay you less. Just keep at them. Just as a example of insurance co.'s, they used double the mileage and a car two years older, on their glasses guide quote when giving me my settlement figure.

If I can help in anyway, PM me

No MOT does not mean policy invalidation - I've seen total loss payouts where MOT was months out of date.

Name and shame this shady insurer...

Sorry to hear this mate - glad you are ok- follow all routes until you have completely exhausted everything to the end. You have nothing to lose and a lot gain
Except the Insurance company then passing the details onto the police that you were driving an illegal vehicle, they can then crush the vehicle, fine you and give you points.
Unless the police are already aware of this fact.

I wouldn't be too quick to react on this one, especially not putting in writing to the insurance company that, 'as I can see you say nothing about me having an MOT so I can't see why you aren't paying out just because I was driving illegally, yes ILLEGALLY at the time', hmm think that would not help.

Just my 2p !

But as others have already insinuated I think there is more to it as well !!

The polis aren't going to crush your vehicle straightaway surely - penalties for these offences always seem pretty low - a few hundred

don't start braking the car yet mate.. just store it.
all the more important if you are going to have a rammy with them and roadworthiness has to be proved. If you can have the state of the car verified independently by a garage before it goes into storage all the better too.

As Dreamer says, this should not put you off.

The car is perfectly driveable in the winter if you use some common sense with your right foot.

The only real concerns are standing water, and the lack of traction with SO2s in snow.

Both are easily dealt with.
