^ Thanks Phil. Now I have to figure out if I need to adjust them or not.

Sam, I don't think there's any way to know without taking the valve cover off and going through the process. I may still have a set of feelers laying around somewhere. Reminds me of when I owned my CRX and was trying to diagnose a tapping sound. I initially thought it was a loose heat shield, but couldn't find the source myself. Someone suggested the valve lash may need adjustment, and the Ann Arbor dealership wanted to charge me a couple hundred bucks just to pull the valve cover off to diagnose the problem. No thanks. Decided to check myself only to find that it was within spec, and the problem was not solved. Took the car to the Honda dealer in Ferndale and in two minutes and costing me a mere 7 dollars they replaced a missing clip on a heat sheild that was causing the noise (should have stuck with my initial thought). I was LOL at the bleeding knuckles comments because I still have a scar on the first knuckle on my thumb from adjusting the CRX's valves. Cylinder heads are sharp. If I ever do that again, I'm wearing gloves.

^ I'll have to find somewhere local to take the car, it hasn't been to a dealer since I bought it.

I could be paranoid, but I certainly hear a loudish ticking at idle (I usually hear it going through the drive-through at the bank) but I can't hear it whilst driving.

i love my fumoto valve...actually i'd never heard of anything bad happening with them until this thread. w/my CAI, i don't even have to jack up the car. just have to be careful not to splash oil all over the place when pulling the pan out from under the car.
