I have been reading and watching this thread. This is a great discussion thread.
Lots of ideas and things to consider.
The overall main concept with most replies is getting people to feel comfortable enough to come out to meets and more on the forum.
I am working off forum and through PM's with Admins and others on how to go forward from here. I have been and am listening to what people ask and have posted.

I will not be able to please everyone nor able too. However, things are changing.

I know from all my years that there are many new people who seem to be afraid to post and worse yet afraid to come to events since they new and know nobody.
We need to be more inviting to these people and let them in.

More events, get togethers and communication I totally agree with.

When I hear more from the Admins I will post more and start some new threads.

Until then keep the discussion going.

Keith

Yeah, like there is a Michigan Cars and Coffee meet posted about here, but that's not an S2000 event, just an event that I am attending and maybe a few other S2000 owners; so, in that sense, it really is "unofficial" but the posting is still of use and value to the community, and similar postings should definitely continue to occur. Similar "outsiders" so to speak (i.e, BMW owners, etc.), should feel welcome here.
Yep, exactly. That's what differentiates an "official" meet between an "unofficial" meet.

This is a good point, and one of the reasons why I think it's good to be accessible to outside groups. Maybe you own an S2000, but don't know anyone in this group, but you at least probably have other friends/family that are auto enthusiasts, sometimes its easier for that first introduction to occur in a more general setting. Either that or be more encouraging to "bring a friend", etc..

^ run people off the road talk to them and show them your enthusiasm for the community. Take them under your wing. Meet them at a meet (you are the only one they know) and introduce them to others. It does not matter who you are, you ae a community member and every community member should participate in the community.

Can we just have Charlie back as a CO? I only realized all these changes had happened this morning. He is a perfect person to be the go-to guy for meets etc. Especially for new people.

I'm a pretty new guy here, I've only been to 2 meets and one was tiny. But those meets I went to felt more like a bunch of old friends meeting up to hang out than an S2000 meet.

I feel more camaraderie in the CR owners thread than in this community.

Just my opinion as a newish guy.

Charlie left due to personal reasons related to his accident, not from getting booted out of the position.

As far as your second paragraph, I would agree, and that's why I'm still here.

I can agree with "official" meets being any created on on this site and being hosted by a member of this community, for this community, while "unofficial" meets would be events hosted by other communities or organizations, or with more groups intended for attendance other than just this community. I don't think specific people and their status within the community (CO, non-CO, owner, non-owner, etc.) should determine whether it is official or not.

For example:

If I plan a meet for the UMW at the Brickhouse on Touhy and I only post it on this site, it becomes an "official" meet.

If I plan my birthday party at the Brickhouse on Touhy and post the invite on the vehicle forums I'm a part of and shoot some invites to personal friends, up on Facebook, etc. it is an "unofficial" meet, because while I invited ya'll, it isn't "exclusive" to the community.

Both kinds of events can help the community (I had a lot of fun hanging out at both Supercar Saturdays and that breast cancer car show Brilliancehondamike posted with other UMW members), but I can see how one would be worthy of showing up on a UMW calendar / twitter post and one wouldn't.

I really like the way this thread is evolving, and I think it is an indicator that we can start seeing the "improvements" most of us would like to see.

I would suggest that's also why new people may not be attending. It's certainly part of the reason why I haven't been to more meets.

I'm curious as to what you'd like, or expect, to see out of a meet.

I've been to quite a few different types of meets over the years - tech days, group drives, BBQ's, lunches, dinners, all sorts of things. Each meet has its purpose, but they all revolve around the car, and they are also for building friendships and common interests.

I'd really like to get your thoughts, especially on why you didn't like the meets you attended in the past, we can't fix a problem if we don't know it's broken.

LOL!!! Someone sorta did that already, Oddy got Andy (Northern) to pull over and introduced him to the forum!!! rofl too funny.
I did that twice, Simon(s2conda) I chased him in borrowed eagle talon(first time I blew my diff.) across the city to get him to come over here, then some other guy I chased on northwest highway in crystal lake when I was having s2k bbq at my house...he never showed up lol I must had scared him away.

I seem to recall some of us having small s2ki business cards that we used to leave at random s2k sightings(i might be wrong about this)
