Default new top advice

hey guys, i'm thinking of buying an 01 s2k, but i just can't stand the rear plastic window, just looks cheap and would annoy me in the cold. so i was gonna replace it with the 02 glass rear window. do you guys know if it will come with a defroster? or a rear defroster button? and how easy of an istall would it be? do you think i could do it myself?

THanks.

even if the new top comes with a defroster you will still have wire it unless your car previously had a hardtop.

how much experience/skill do you have when it comes to things like this?

defroster kit is 175USD if you go aftermarket route, im not sure how much it is if you go OEM. Defroster kit includes wiring and all the buttons. You could probably do it yourself if you can understand a wiring diagram. I have a DIY for wiring a defrost, it'll probably cost you 10bucks or so if you wire it yourself. Only thing you would need to buy from honda is the actual button for the switch.

I'm sure you would be able to do it yourself, but it'll take a while for sure. You will run into problems for sure, its a matter of whether you're willing to take that risk or not. Search the forums, theres DIY for replacing the top.
If you do decide to do it yourself, i can send you the defrost wiring pdf file

note the soft top frame for the soft top w/ plastic window is not the same as the frame for cars that came w/ the oem glass window...

if you want to retrofit a glass window top onto the 00-01 frame, it's better to go w/ an aftermarket top that is designed for the 00-01 soft top frame.

You gave us a link to the cart or something. I bought my replacement top w/ glass back window (no defroster) from Robbins and it was pretty good. I didn't see that much need for a defroster at that time since I lived in Arizona, lol. But even now it doesn't bother me. The cabin is fairly small so air gets to circulate quite quickly and if rain is in the back window it's impossible to see anyways.

It's amazing what a new top does to freshen the look of the car.

Edit: don't have any pics of it but here's a video where you can sort of see how nice and dark it is. I think when I contacted Robbins they told me it was a wee bit darker than OEM.
