Sheesh guys. The 070 was available factory on Subes. Don't just use a single retailer to base anything on. (But I do love the Tire Rack) There was comparative testing re: GRM.

The feel of the 615 has been considered an issue by a few people. I think people are complaining about the lack of noise at the limit, rather than just feel. The front end can be kind of numb, esp. if the toe is off. How much pressure was being run? Factory bar? Alignment spec? Tire/rim width. With all of that we can start talking.

Overheating. Any tire can be overheated, and AX/street tires are particularly prone to that. The 615 is a street/AX tire, not the uber track tire in my opinion, although several better drivers seem to do great on them on the track.

I used to overheat tires on the AX course due to my driving style. My bad, not the tire. If that is an issue I would definitely go for more width, which our rims can take (tires will last longer as well, but some feel will go off).

The RS2 HK seems to do well, but it is only available for the AP1 rims.

The pilot sport is a fine street tire, IMHO. But super expensive compared to these tires.

I haven't seen the GRM test yet. Can someone give details? Was it track, autox, street, Tire Rack's test track? What car (not really that important, but I'd like to get an idea).

I've autocrossed, tracked, and dragon'd the RS2's and RE01R's. I usually recommend the RS2's to people who are on a budget but still want an agressive street tire and beginner/intermidiate autox. I consider the RE-01R's a step above. haven't tried the azenis since they don't come in ap1 sizes.

what car were you using the RE070's on? If its an S2k then they werent Re070's cuz I dont think they are even available yet, at least not on tirerack. Maybe I'm wrong. No tire is going to handle good in wet conditions when they're bald. If the tread depth were the same then I'm willing to bet that RE070's would have spanked the azenis, azenis have a huge tire patch so where is the water going to go? Would be nice to see some extensive testing of tires on the same car by the same driver.
I was running 225/45/17 all around on my rsx. The tires weren't bald, but definitely the Azenis did have a bit more tread depth when run in the rain so your probably right about that its hard to compare them fairly. I've tracked the azenis several times in the wet/damp however and I've always been pleased with how they performed considering the tire. But it wasn't just standing water, the RE070 were terrible when cold even when the track was simply damp, after a storm I'd rather be on the Azenis when its drying.

And yes the RE070 squeel much more than the RT615. As for overheating, I stated the 615 overheated quicker than the RE070, but of course they both did eventually, they are street tires so its all relative.

The only reason I'll buy either again is if I'm on a budget, I might try the Kuhmo MX too. If limited to a 140+ treadwear I'll probably try the RE01R.

RE070's love heat(to an extent), every lap I got a faster time, I would still like to try BF Goodrich KD's but I'm too afraid it would be a step back, and they're more expensive than RE01R's.

Did anybody ever hear BF Goodrich KD's were almost banned from STS/STX for being too sticky. A guy on the local board told me this.

For those comparing the re-050 and rt615's, did you compare the same sizes? Or just the usual 215/245 re-050 and 225/255 rt615 sizes?

I think once we get some real s2000 miles on the 070 it will be the best all-around street tire. Esp. if the second layer is true.

I think the 01 is great for more perf than the 050/070 and the azenis is a steal.

I still like the 050 but it is numb for me, I just like the fact that I can't get it to chunk at full tread depth and it is really good for a street tire (quiet/decent wet/wear).

050's on putnam understeered like a bitch, pretty stock alignment though. They didn't get hot until the end of a 20 min session.

RE01R have a second layer right?

The RE070 are a great tire, I just read a CR review and it posted nearly 1g on a 300ft skidpad with those tires, not bad for the size!
