Is there a "right" tire pressure?

XV,
Many members, and I myself, valued your opinions a lot. I may not agree with all your opinion(s), I still think that you had valid points. Please do not leave the site.

I wouldn't have a hesitation to leave this site at the blink of an eye. If FO sees me as a hurtful element of this community, I would welcome and ask him (in fact, I demanded it - sort of a "put up or shut up" kind of thing) to start a poll to see if others agree. I found HIS post to be particularly hurtful.

Disagreeing with me has never been a problem for me. I have never professed to be always right. I just object to being misinterpretted, then slammed for what some people perceived me as meaning or intending.

I re-read your first post and in a way I see that you were agreeing with s2000red07. My use of the word "trite" was unfortunate. What I was trying to convey is that the original poster obviously went to some length (especially if he is keyboard impaired like a lot of us) to outline his thoughts, and I viewed your answer as non-complimentary. The re-read shows your answer to be neutral. I used the word "hurtful" because I have seen many new posters get berated for ideas they put forth and thought that was the case here.
I certainly did not mean to indicate that your presence on this site is not welcome. You are a wealth of knowledge, and I know that you spend considerable time devoted to helping others with problems associated with their automobiles.
If I have offended you I sincerely apologize. That was not my intent.
So back to the original post it all depends on your type of tire and what you are doing with it. Different tires like to be run at different pressures for various reasons....some get too "greasy" when you run them high, some roll over way too much if you run them low...there is no one answer. For each tire you try, go out and find the optimal setting for the type of driving you do. Mostly as a very general rule somewhere between 32 and 38 is where most tires would like to be. There is no one magic number.
You guys needs to go easy on xviper. He tells it like it is, and if you carefully read every word he wrote in this thread, you'd see he never meant to be offensive.
He is a HUGE asset to this community.

Wow. I read XV's initial reply and see nothing wrong with it. In fact, I was nodding along as I was reading it. He's right, the average person will log on and ask something like "what's the correct tire pressure for an s2k?" The rest of the people on the site are left to make assumptions as to what kind of answer this person wants. With such a short question you would have to assume this is just an average person looking for the answer "the pressure is noted on the door jam". I mean, if the person had wanted a long, descriptive answer their question would have been accompanied by much more information, i.e. "I drive my s2k aggressively, never in the rain, and in a warm climate. Based on this info, what would be the best tire pressure for me?"
I never saw anywhere in XV's reply where he disagreed with the thread starter. He was simply saying that the average person/most people want the short answer, otherwise they'd ask for the long answer. I just don't see how his reply can be taken negatively, but that's just me.
If one were to navigate over to the under-the-hood section it wouldn't take long to see just how much his technical knowledge means to this community. Thousands of owners have benefitted from his posts. So, yes XV, "You

I am going to ask that this thread be closed. I am heartened by the support shown to me here but before this becomes a "take sides" kind of thing, it would be best to end it. My beef was with the way I was treated for my first response.
FO2K, I accept your apology. Let's move on.
