So from perusing this thread, am I to surmise a 17x8 + 45 offset front and 17x9 + 40 offset rear would be sticking out too far? I am not lowered... and I don't intend to.

Not necessarily... depends on what tire you run. The lower your offset, the narrower tire you need to run to avoid rubbing. It's all outlined in the first post, section 4. Find your offsets on the chart, and you'll see what width tire will fit.

Everyone thinks it's the wheel width that matters. While the wheel width does matter (because you do need to be able to mount your chosen tires onto your chosen wheels), it is the tire that rubs the fender, not the wheel. Thus the two most important parameters are wheel offset and tire width.

OK... POP QUIZ everyone! Well, not really... just a question.
I currently have the tein S techs with my fenders rolled ('01 S).

I bought a used set of Stern ST 1's from a local. They are not staggered, just the tire size is. They are the 18-8" wheels. I would like to tuck 9.5" in the rear. I found a set of rears with a +48mm offset. The minimum required offset is (and quoted from a prev thread):

"8.0

Im currently running:

18x9 +58 safe fit
18x10.5 +39 wild fit

225-40-18
255-35-18

Anything is possible with camber, shaved fenders and a little stretch on the tires.Of course that all depends on if you like extreme fitment looks

As you can see i need a little more camber for perfect fit.

I have a question. I have been reading and searching, and I still can't figure out what I need to know.

Car: 03 S2000, Espilir springs, no rolled fenders or anything

Wheels in question: Advan RS 17x8 Front +45 17x8.5 Rear +50

Will these wheels work without rubbing? 215 or 225/45 front 245/40 or 45 rear?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I can't really speak for lowered cars, because it depends on what you do with your alignment after you lower it.

Except for your lowering, all the info is right in the first post of this very thread. Just pick out the line that has your offset. That will tell you the widest tire you're likely to fit without rubbing. If you're lowered, you might increase your chances of rubbing. The lines pertaining to you are in bold type below.

For the front:
[B]6.5

Thanks spa-zz, but the fronts are 8" wide, not 7.5. Would putting a 205 on a 8" wheel looked "stretched"?

Yes, it would look stretched. You can do it though, if you really want to use those wheels. The suggestions for wheel width for a given tire width should be verified by checking out the specs on the tire you choose.
