Default Immobilser issue

With my car again unable to start due to the %@?*%£# Hamilton & Palmer immobiliser, can anyone recommend a company, preferably mobile who can disconnect this pain in the @rse thing and install a new one?

Current state of the car: For the second time this year the battery was disconnected for a period of time and when starting it and leaving it to get up to temperature the car stalled. The green key light comes on but the key fob does nothing! Last time having read various threads on here the easist but time consuming answer seemed to be disconnect the battery for a day or so, then reconnect but do not try to start for a day or so. After doing this is was fine but now having had the battery disconnected for a fortnight while the steering wheel went away for retrim, the problem has arisen again and the car is now sitting in the garage in the middle of this sequence - battery disconnected and me hoping it will work again.

I think that the green flashing key is part of the Honda immobiliser, rather than the Hamilton & Palmer set up.

Have you tried calling H&P? 01732 760022. Apparently, they are pretty helpful.

Thanks LG. Just called them. Need to call their retired specialist who goes in Wednesdays and Thursdays. The woman in the office thinks the board loses the keys so suggested sending both to them to get them recoded. Hopefully Jim can suggest an easier option Wednesday.

So a little information to maybe help other members

Brief history of the issue:

The car was left in the garage over winter connected up to an Optimate4. Every now and then the alarm would go off for no reason (usually in the middle of the night)so in the end I disconnected the battery and left it connected to the Optimate4 (I knew it was on it's last legs to be honest) Spring came and I re-connected the battery, started the car and left it running while I went into the house. After 5 minutes or so I returned to find the engine stopped. I restarted it and went back indoors. Again upon my return the engine had stopped. This time when I pressed the button on the key fob to disarm the immobiliser before hitting the start button nothing happened! I'd already bought a new battery from Honda so put that on but nothing. I then bought two new batteries for the key fobs (knowing it couldn't be those both going at the same time) and obviously still no good.
Searching on the forums I found a couple of threads but nothing definitive other than try disconnecting the battery a leaving for at least 24 hours then reconnecting and leaving for at least another 24 hours without doing anything. I left it for two days disconnected and two days after reconnecting it I turned the key back to the immobiliser position and it worked. The car started and everything was back to normal.
A few weeks later I again had to disconnect the battery for a couple of weeks as my sheering wheel went away for re-trim. Connected it all back up again, started the car and went indoors. Forgot about it and 20 minutes later it had stopped again and again hitting the button on the key fob did nothing!
In then end I disconnected the battery for a day and a half and left it connected for two days before trying and on the second attempt at disarming the immobiliser it worked.
I spoke to Jim at Hamilton & Palmer who is about the most knowledgeable person on the planet where these immobilisers are concerned and he'd never experienced this issue nor heard of the method used to clear it. He said the only thing that would cause this issue would be where the board loses communication with the handset but the 'reset' I do wouldn't cure that that he knew of.

The car is back to normal now but I have decided to order a new circuit board complete with spare handset (£216) complete with instructions to pair my existing handsets to the new board as and when/if I fit it. You can send your board to them for refurb with the handsets for £145 but waiting time is lengthy.

I know people have experienced this issue from looking on the forums but there doesn't seem to be a definitive solution and of course this method only works if your car is not your daily drive and by no means guaranteed but may be of help to someone.

My car is an MY03 and the alarm is a T2.

Thanks for the info!

No doubt that this issue will hit my car one day and i think when that does happen i will have someone fit a different system.

Glad you got the problem solved. £216 is a lot cheaper than getting an aftermarket system installed I suppose.

One thing is for certain and it's that the H&P systems do not like being deprived of electricity.

PS why has everyone started calling "problems", "issues"?
