S2000 STR prep resource
reposting here like in the Nationals thread since it's being talked about both places:
I hope that my faith in OS Giken (company and product) will soon be restored... good developments today (yes my diff is toast, but OS Giken is talking to us...)
Sounds like they know they have a problem and a redesign is in the works...
I'm trying to find out what recommendations they have for current diff owners to minimize the risk of failure. More to come as I learn more!

Annie, just for reference I've been running the OSG for almost 2 seasons already plus occasional street driving (installed early 2010) with no problems... granted I haven't run as many autox's as I usually do...
FYI if anyone is looking for a miata bar for the rear. I just picked one up from www.partsgroup.com for $20. They are a miata and rx8 race car prep shop

STR related question.
heres the set-up
front-
900 lbs springs
shocks set at full soft on compression and rebound at 65% critical
Gendron 1.25 solid bar at 6/6 (full stiff)
2.8 camber
6.0 caster
0 toe
rear-
700 lbs springs
shocks set at full soft on compression and rebound at 65% critical
miata 06 base swaybar
2.5 camber
.06 degrees toe in on each side.
Having a bit of a handling issue and I have a idea to fix it but not sure because two difference lots had different issues.
Race one-
The lot was kind of slick when driving but didn't like tire pressues below 36, anything below 36 the wear line was passing the tip of the wear triangle. The car felt really loose in the rear.
video of run- http://www.vimeo.com/27104099
Race two-
The lot just got sealed, grip sucks, I'm seeing about the same g force numbers on the lot sealed as I did on the lot not sealed but in the rain. The car felt alittle pushy and you can hear the front tires in the first video. On this lot I could run the pressures down to 34-34.5 and not roll over the triangle. Therefore I think this lot has less overall grip then the first.
video 1- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Uq8EV6JgeE
video 2- http://www.vimeo.com/27136089
The car was fast and put down "ok" times even though the handling issues. (second both days) I dont have any compression to take out and if I added compression on the end with to much grip it would fix the push or oversteer but it would be making the grip circle on that end smaller to balance the car. Overall it would make the car slower. So I really don't know the best way to "fix" the issue because the car had oppisite issues on back to back days. The only thing that changed were the lots.
any input guys?

+1
Having actually driven your car and a few others, I don't think the front sway bar is your answer. You will be killing your corner entry. Let me hop in it at an event again. With all the camber changes and sweepers at "the pad" (sealed lot in reference) there is no way to keep a car predictable. Like many drivers on here, some lots require continuous and careful attention due to the variety of feedback you get from your car. At PJCS (first lot in reference) we were not allowed to clean the course off before the event. Event our car on the B-Stock setup and massive front bar was loose. Careful throttle application was crucial.
My next mod for you Josh is putting a restrictor on that right foot!
In all seriousness, I would consider less rear spring. Let your shocks do some of the work...

Exactly! And that's video proof, back to back days, same Setting, different surface. It didn't make sense to me either that's why I posted.
Ok marc will do, I'm going softer on springs this winter when I pull the shocks off. I'm going to go 800-850f and 600-650r still thinking about it.
The car felt good at the pad minus that hint of push. That comes with a low grip lot though but at pjcs the car was a handful just to drive. I'll drive one more event, try a couple things and then figure out what to do.
Josh - as cool as those bumper cam videos are to watch, in my opinion they really tell you absolutely nothing about how you're driving and what's going on with the car. You can't see the driver inputs, you can't look ahead on the course to see what's going on beyond the next cone, and you can't see where the cones are relative to the car beyond just a general sense. Maybe consider putting the camera behind the driver next time?
I can't watch the vimeo ones because I only have my phone and apparently vimeo blocks phones, but the youtube one seemed fine from what I could tell...but as I mentioned I can't really tell anything from it other than "WHEEEEEEE!".
