It was about 1/3 tank of fuel at that weight.

It started out with ~2/3 and 2740lbs. We took the 40lbs of fuel out to get it to auto-x fuel levels. I'm afraid to run the car with much less fuel than that due to starve. Isn't worth frying my fuel pump over a few lbs...

Thanks for sharing ... Were there any other S2000s weighed on that scale along with you? Reason I ask, its hard to compare cars on different scales, different times, etc. I have seen 200lbs differences on my car, some on the same scales (scca portable scales). With most the arguments involving 50-100 lb differences and the 39lb difference for the CRs, i feel the considered weights need to have an exact fuel/fluid measurement and specifics on all mods and done on the same scales at the same time to eliminate as many variables as possible just as James and Stephen have done. Just my .02

I posted this in one of the other threads but will copy it here, since not everyone pays attention to all threads

The OS Giken diff in my car failed last weekend.

So far we've had three diffs fail in three cars, three installers, two of which were OS Giken dealers - I'm thinking we've taken most (albeit not all) of the install risk out of the equation. One had spacers, two did not, so spacers aren't a magical cure either. All three from different OS Giken shipments, so it wasn't just one bad batch.

My car likely has the most power of the three, but nothing near what some track / drift cars make, so it shouldn't be that. I probably was harder on mine than Des was - I typically had codrivers and ran it at more events. Still went out in 2 months...

And I've told Colin this - my car made exactly the same noises his did (occasional thunk / clunk on tight turns in parking lots, etc) until it catastrophically failed on Max's Saturday PM runs last weekend. I only got four runs in the car before it broke, and the car just got progressively worse. The diff is essentially locked now.

The stock Torsen is going back in the car for now, until this gets sorted out. Now we've got three failures, I'm hopeful it's not a design issue... Either way, until we can confirm it's NOT, I'm not willing to spend $$ on a replacement part that will only last 2 months. I want to give OS Giken the benefit of the doubt for now, but I'm unfortunately only slightly optimistic.

Has anyone tried a different diff other than the OS Giken?

I've been using the Cusco RS (1.5way at 80% lockup) in my BSP Z this year with satisfactory results. It does NOT operate as smoothly the OS, though. It is quite obtrusive in very low speed stuff (putting around in grid, etc). However, it works rather seamlessly once on course. My car makes 260-265 wtq for reference.

I assume everyone's seen this article?

Unfortunately, the OS Giken was the clear winner of that comparison.

Not on the same day. They have done a lot of work on s2000s (including Greg Hann's CR), but those were B-Stock cars, so I don't think they felt the need to put them on the scales like my STR car.

Annie, just for reference I've been running the OSG for almost 2 seasons already plus occasional street driving (installed early 2010) with no problems... granted I haven't run as many autox's as I usually do...

Out of curiousity do you launch the car at events?

I installed mine earlier this year and put at least 50 to 60 runs on it. It does make clunking noise on sharp slow turn like in parking lots. According to recent post, my Giken would not see September. I got 3 event and 1 autox school in August, expect close to another fifty runs. Also not very gentle with it, I do launch the poop out of it.
Might just put the spacers on just for piece of mind until this gets sorted out. I did use the Giken juice since installed and changed it after two events. I was gonna changed it again after seasons over, might changed it earlier to see if any particular in there.
I did give the service manual to my installer and he did say it was very helpful. Installed all new bearings and shaft collar in the process.

I dont see how cv spacers are going to help... care to explain your theory?
