Mugen S2000 Duels with BMW M4 at the Nurburgring

Despite holding a massive power advantage, this Performance Pack BMW M4 can’t shake a pesky S2000.

In the automotive world, things change at a rapid pace. This is especially true in recent years, as we’ve seen the horsepower wars turn even minivans into respectable straight-line performers. But that doesn’t mean that certain older cars, like the Honda S2000, can’t still hang with the latest high-tech performance wizardry. Want proof? Just scope out this Mugen-tuned S2000 battling a BMW M4 Performance Pack at the Nurburgring.

Opting for the ultimate M4 nets you 444 hp, a retuned Active M differential and stability control system, revised suspension bits, bigger wheels, and stickier tires. It’s undoubtedly a fast car, running to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds and topping out at 174 mph. So you might rightfully think that something like a decades-old Honda S2000 might not stand a chance against one of these things at Germany’s most famous track. But you’d be wrong.

Honda S2000

With a little aftermarket help, this S2000 more than holds its own against the fancy new Bimmer. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Xav_ S2000 is one heck of a skilled driver. But if you were just comparing these two rides on paper, you’d never think that David could possibly top Goliath.

The little Honda obviously loses ground on the straights, but more than makes up for it in the corners. Which is exactly what you’d expect, given the M4’s obvious power advantage. But the sight of an S2000 in the BMW driver’s rear-view mirror had to at least make him sweat just a little bit. And that’s the sort of stuff we love to see!
