Megapixels ain't everything. Besides, all phone cameras still suck compared to even the cheap entry-level digital cameras on the market.

There's also a video camera app for the iPhone released.
Not sure how it is.

You are right, they are not. But camera phones have improved greatly in the last couple of years. Even my K800i takes pictures that (in the right lighting conditions) could pass for those on a cheap entry camera.

Something like http://www.ttcpl.com.au/hail/v/DSC00130.JP...ageViewsIndex=1 is a good example

So what am I missing? I can set the time on a VCR but I can't understand phone plans.

Am I right that on a $79 a month plan I get 700Mb of data, $550 worth of text and calls.

And on a 24 month contract I pay an extra $2 a month for a 16Gb iPhone.
That's the way I read it too. Not bad.

I know... but this will be a work phone that gets sat on, dropped, chucked in a bag/pocket full of keys/coins, swiped by little girls under 3 and used to take random pics and call grandma and quite possible tossed into the air just to check what kind of sound it makes when it lands. I ain't going to buy an expensive phone for that. And I am not going to slave myself into looking after the well being of the phone. I do that enough with my cars :-)

I can't for the life of me figure out these plans. It must be because I'm new here.

I wonder what the chances of picking one up on the 11th is.

Then you definitely want an iPhone:
