Default is it possible

hello everyone, i park my car outside the driveway for about two months now. today, i decided to give it some tlc. i noticed a crack on my windshield on the other side where the rearview mirror is attached.

and here is your million pennies question.

is it possible (due to weather changes) that a windshield mirror (i know our windshields are a bit soft) to crack?

i know its the least of my problems at the moment. i just want to know so at least i would sleep sound tonight not thinking someone hated on my poor baby..

thank you very much

Yamez.

Are you parked under a tree?
It could have been an acorn or something of that sort falling.
But I doubt the temperature changes around s. bay are that drastic to cause a crack in the glass from expansion.

Definitely could be temperature. I've seen an Accord windshield crack while being washed during a particularly hot summer day. Not the same thing, but like you said, the windshields on Hondas are soft and therefore not that resilient.

Sucks, though. Sorry to hear about it.

only a instantaneous drastic temperature difference would cause such an amount of stress to actually form a crack. but everyday temperature differences from night to day changes too slowly to cause such stresses. hope this helps.

thats because the windshield was hot and your using cold water, which causes a fast drop in temperature which will crack glass. day to night and night to day temperatures are slowly changing and will not likely crack a windshield.

Agreed. My point was that temperature can mess our windshields up, like James suspected, even if it's pretty unlikely that it happened in his case.
