Well done, you just eat earmarked your car for all of those folks. Better to fly below the radar.
The S2000 unfortunately garners a lot of negative attention from thieves, jealous people, japanese-car haters, sports-car haters, 'Murica bros, lifted trucks, cops, et cetera. This is only going to get worse as the Central Valley flat-brim-baseball-hat crowd can now afford salvage title examples, and they're sucking up all the cheap black market parts they can find as they rebuild them into sad stance cars. Don't daily-drive an S2000 without low-deductible comprehensive insurance.

To be perfectly honest, if I had to park this car outisde where it is in plain site I'd probably sell it before something could happen. A car is not worth restless nights to me anymore as I played that game with theives when I lived in Daly City with some of my other cars. Not to say you should be pushed out of a car/hobby that you love because somebody is ruining it for you but you might want to consider purchasing a car cover and cable to run under the car so you could lock the cover to the car. Make it harder for them to get to, it will be less desirable to mess with a car that may get you caught.. Just saying.

San Jose has been getting pretty bad. From what I hear, the situation with the police department has not been improving and thieves are realizing that they can get away with more and more. Liccardo hasn't been doing a good job. Best park your cars in a garage.

Has this been more in SJ than anywhere else? I live in Livermore and i'm in the market to buy one. I dont have a garage however but my covered parking will be where i'm keeping mine. Has anyone in Livermore had issues with roadsters in general? My girlfriend is buying the new Miata soon but she will be stuck with street parking. I do worry about that a lot.

Regardless of theft deterrent, if a thief wants it, they will. I've learnt that insurance is the best solution.
I'm not letting a thief determine what I can and cannot drive. Example; I had my first GS-R stolen, but with insurance money I ended up buying another GS-R, because I like the car.

I live in east side San Jose(Tully and Mclaughlin) and never got keyed once in the 4 years parked outside.
It did eventually get keyed in a much nicer neighborhood(Evergreen) while parked for about 2 hours..
Also had my window broken to attempt to steal my hardtop.
I woke up and they ran off.

Yup, I live in that area and my car is parked outside. It's a nice area but unfortunately always a victim of theft and/or vandalism. Last year, my Honda Accord was carjacked, then recently the soft top on the S2000 was ripped. The only item taken was the remote for the radio.
